The Missing Piece

The Missing Piece 35

Georg-Friedrich Wolf‘s preferred material is steel. In large-format sculptures and work cycles, he tirelessly explores its properties and constantly expands the register of expressive possibilities that his material opens up for him. At Blickachsen 14, he is showing “The Missing Piece”, a key work in his oeuvre to date. A monumental puzzle square made of solid steel plates lies on a lawn in the Kurpark – but one piece of the puzzle is missing. For Wolf, the empty space in the arrangement system, the gap, is a “principle of life”, a space of possibility in which we can approach the world: “The search for the missing piece keeps our thinking in motion.” This idea is also taken up in the second exhibited work, “Fingerprint VI”. Blank spaces for puzzle pieces are inserted into the more than four-metre-high steles, which reveal new partial views of the surroundings as you walk around them.
Georg-Friedrich Wolf trained as a locksmith and then passed his master craftsman‘s examination as a metal designer. Technical expertise combined with a keen interest in cultural and historical themes form the basis of his artistic work. Wolf presents his works in exhibitions at home and abroad and as art in the public space.
